It is with genuine sadness that SMA Blackrock Parish bids farewell to Fr. John Horgan SMA who has been the faithful assistant of Fr. Noel O’Leary SMA for three years.

Fr John will be moving to the SMA House, Wilton, Cork, and we wish him many years of God’s grace and blessings in his much deserved retirement. His gentle presence, natural kindness and deep prayerfulness, especially during the Eucharist, will be missed.

Reflecting on his ministry in Blackrock Parish, Fr. John expressed the following words of gratitude:

“As I leave I wish to thank everybody for the enriching experience of being involved in your parish for

the past three years. Thanks especially for your welcome, patience, support and encouragement. I wish to thank those in leadership – priests and laity; those involved in the ministries of the Word, the Eucharist, Church Music and Singing, the ministry of Stewardship, collecting and banking church contributions. The Ministry of Maintenance, keeping the church clean and welcoming; those involved in the Ministry of Liturgy, the Sacristan, those organising the different liturgies, preparing the altar and the church for all occasions. And thanks to all who come to worship in the church and do so in a manner that makes our liturgies reverent and prayerful.

“Please keep me in your prayer as I will keep you in mine. May the love of God always enfold each of us, and keep us calm, encouraged and reassured as we face the darkness, the mystery and the unknown in our lives.”

We will certainly keep Fr. John in our prayers, asking that his prayer for his parishioners will be reflected back upon him. And we pray that the days and years ahead will deepen his fusion with the God of Mercy he has faithfully followed throughout a long and dedicated life to the peoples of Africa and Ireland.

Thank YOU Fr John!
