Fr James Kirstein SMA [RIP]
Fr James Kirstein returned to the Lord on Monday, 23 January 2017.
Fr Jim died in the Cork University Hospital at 8.50pm during the recitation of the Rosary by three members of the Blackrock Road lay staff who had worked with him during his years as Manager of the SMA Main Office.
Aged 81 years of age, Fr Jim had taught in Jos diocese [Nigeria] in St Murumba’s Secondary School and later in St Augustine’s Major seminary, as a formator in the following SMA centres: SMA House, Maynooth, Co Kildare; the SMA International Spiritual Year programme in Calavi [Benin Republic]; the SMA Formation House in New Manila [Philippines].
On his return to Ireland, in 2005, he was appointed as the Manager of the Main Office in Blackrock Road. In 2010, due to increasing ill health, Fr Jim was released from this work and moved into an active retirement in the SMA House until, in recent months, his health began to decline and he moved into the Nursing care wing of the House.
His book of Sunday Sermons are featured each Sunday on the SMA website and it remains one of the most visited part of www.sma.ie

Tuesday, 24 January: Reposing at the Society of African Missions, Blackrock Road, Cork.
Wednesday, 25 January: Prayers for the Dead at 7pm followed by removal to St Joseph’s SMA Church, Wilton.
Thursday, 26 January: Concelebrated Funeral Mass at 12 noon followed by burial in the SMA Community cemetery.
