The Society of African Missions is dedicated to serving the peoples of Africa and people of African descent around the world. We hope your visit to our website will tell you more about the SMA, about Africa and its people, and interest you in supporting our missionaries and their communities in Africa.
Rejoicing and sadness
The SMA rejoices that 9 more men have pledged their lives to the service of the Church as SMA missionaries. Having taken their Oath of Permanent membership in the Society of African Missions they were subsequently ordained to the Diaconate by Bishop Emmanuel Badejo of Oyo diocese.
Some days later the SMA witnessed the honouring of four of our older missionaries who are leaving Nigeria for the last time after more than 150 years service to Africa between them. Read The changing face of the SMA here.
National Novena in honour of Our Lady
The SMA National Novena in honour of Our Lady is continuing each day, concluding with the SMA / OLA National Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock on this Saturday, 25 May 2013.
Many thousands of people are participating in this Novena through reciting the Novena Prayers each day.
Mass is being celebrated each evening at 7.30pm in St Joseph's SMA Church, Blackrock Road, Cork at which different themes are considered in a brief homily. It is hoped to have a copy of each homily available here after each Mass. Click on the homily theme to read it.
